Section 1 / 3
MULTIPLY BY 2: JUST DOUBLE!

Multiplying by 2 is the same as doubling. To multiply by 4, double twice. To multiply by 8, double three times. Doubling chains give you three times tables for the price of one!

4 x 7
1Double 7 = 14 (that is 2 x 7)
2Double again: 14 x 2 = 28
3So 4 x 7 = 28
= 28

LEADER TIP

Connect doubling to the x2, x4, and x8 tables. If students can double, they can multiply by any power of 2.
