Section 1 / 2
PRIME VS COMPOSITE NUMBERS

Numbers with exactly 2 factors are prime. Numbers with more than 2 factors are composite. The number 1 is special - it is neither prime nor composite because it has only one factor. Every whole number greater than 1 is either prime or composite.

Sort: 4, 7, 9, 11, 15, 17
1Prime: 7, 11, 17 (2 factors each)
2Composite: 4, 9, 15 (more than 2 factors)
3Special: 1 is neither!
= 0

LEADER TIP

Sorting activities work brilliantly. Give students number cards and two hoops: Prime and Composite. Discuss the tricky ones.
