HOP TO A FRIENDLY NUMBER

Subtract in steps by hopping to the nearest ten first. For 73 - 28: hop from 73 down to 70 (subtract 3), then subtract the remaining 25 to get 45.

1Subtract to the nearest ten first: 73 βˆ’ 3 = 70
2Then: 70 βˆ’ 25 = 45
3Or simply: 73 βˆ’ 30 = 43, add back 2 > 45
= 45
