SUBTRACTING GROUPS

Division can be done by repeatedly subtracting the divisor until you reach 0 (or can't subtract anymore). Count how many times you subtracted - that's your answer! 20/4: subtract 4 five times to reach 0, so the answer is 5.

20 / 4
120-4=16, 16-4=12, 12-4=8, 8-4=4, 4-4=0
2Subtracted 5 times
320 / 4 = 5
= 5

LEADER TIP

Connect to the number line. Each jump back is one group removed. Count the jumps to find the answer.
