Round numbers to the nearest 10 or 100 to simplify calculations.

ROUNDING TO THE NEAREST 10

Look at the ones digit. If it is 5 or more, round up; if it is 4 or less, round down. So 47 becomes 50 and 43 becomes 40. Only the tens digit can change.

Round 37 to nearest 10

137 is between 30 and 40

237 is closer to 40 (only 3 away)

3Round up: 40

= 40

Round 82 to nearest 10

182 is between 80 and 90

282 is closer to 80 (only 2 away)

3Round down: 80

= 80
