FINDING SIMPLE PERCENTAGES

Start with 10%: divide the amount by 10. From there, you can get any multiple of 10%: 20% = 2 × 10%, 30% = 3 × 10%. For 50%, just halve the number. For 25%, halve and halve again. Build from these building blocks!

10% of 80

110% = ÷ 10

280 ÷ 10 = 8

= 8

20% of 60

110% of 60 = 6

220% = 2 × 10% = 12

= 12

LEADER TIP

Find 10% first (divide by 10), then build up. 20% = two lots of 10%. 5% = half of 10%. This mental strategy is powerful.
