COMPARING DECIMALS

To compare decimals, first make them the same length by adding trailing zeros. Then compare digit by digit from left to right. For example: 0.6 vs 0.42 becomes 0.60 vs 0.42. Since 60 hundredths > 42 hundredths, 0.6 is larger.

0.6 vs 0.42
10.6 = 0.60
20.60 > 0.42
3So 0.6 is bigger

LEADER TIP

Teach students to add trailing zeros (0.6 = 0.60) so both decimals have the same number of digits before comparing.
