WHAT IS AREA?

Area is the amount of space inside a flat shape, measured in square units (cm², m²). For rectangles: Area = length × width. You can also count square tiles that fit inside the shape. Area tells you how much surface a shape covers.

Rectangle: 4 cm × 3 cm
1Area = length × width
2A = 4 × 3 = 12 cm²
= 12

LEADER TIP

Cover surfaces with square tiles before introducing the formula. Area tiles make the concept concrete and measurable.
