Section 1 / 3
WHAT IS AN ARRAY?

An array is a set of objects arranged in equal rows and equal columns - like seats in a cinema or eggs in a carton. A 3x5 array has 3 rows of 5 (or 5 columns of 3). The total count is the product.

3 x 5
13 rows, 5 columns
2Count all: 15
= 15

LEADER TIP

Dot arrays and grid paper make the commutative property visible. Rotate the array to show 3x5 = 5x3.
