UNITS OF LENGTH

Length measures how long something is. The metric system uses millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), metres (m), and kilometres (km). Key conversions: 10 mm = 1 cm, 100 cm = 1 m, 1000 m = 1 km. Choose the right unit for what you are measuring.

How many cm in 1 metre?
11 m = 100 cm
21 m = 1000 mm
= 100

LEADER TIP

Start with non-standard units (hand spans, pencils) before rulers. This builds understanding of what measurement means.
