RECOGNIZING ADDITION SITUATIONS

Addition word problems describe combining, joining, or increasing quantities. Key words include: total, altogether, in all, combined, both, sum, more than. Read the problem carefully and identify what two amounts need to be combined.

Sam has 12 apples. He gets 8 more. How many now?
